John Mackleroy, born about 1690, died 1763 is the oldest of our know ancestors. HIs exact date of birth, marriage and death is not known nor is the name of his wife jnown. We think hewr fist name was Frances and they were married in 1712.

Notice the differnece in spelling of his name. It is believed that he lived in the vicinity of Baltimore, Maryland as many of his childrfen were born there. Apparently he later migrated to Union County, NC as deed records show that he sold property to one of his son-in-laws, a John Belk, Sr. ( In 1761 a deed of sale from Earl of Granville to John McElroy of 365 acres of land was proved by the oath of Theophilus Hunter and ordered to be registered. John McElroy gave a deed of gift to John Belk (one of his sons-in-law) in 1763, the same year that John McElroy died. Johnson Co, NC )

John Mackleroy was the great, great, great grandfather of James Lewis McLeroy.

It is interesting to note that he and his father William both served in this war.

Reubin moved to Oglethorpe county Georgia about 1784. Apparently he lived in Clarke county with his wife Christiana as both were at one time members of Mars Hill Baptist Church. HIs wif was 92 when she filed for his Revolutionary War pension in Harris county in 1851. The pension, $40 per annum was granted July 8, 1851. Her date of death is not known. Reubin was the great grandfather of Janes Lewis McLeroy.

Ruben McLeroy served in the Revolution as a private under Captain Wood & Col. Malmady (a Frenchman).  In the North Carolina militia while a resident of Wake Co., North Carolina, Richard Hartsfield (husband of Reuben's sister Anna) and Reuben served together and were in a skirmish with the British or torries at Cross Creek, North Carolina and at the Battle of Guilford Court House, North Carolina.  They moved to Georgia about 1784 and were soon followed by Anna and Richard.  Reuben was an ordained minister and was at one time a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, Oconee County, Georgia.
