Was graduated from Bowden College in 1870. an A.B. Degree. Bowden College conferred a A.M. June 1885. Was married to Eudora Virginia Weaver on December 28, 1871. He was Professor of Mathematics and Modern Language at Oxford College, Oxford, Alabama from August 27, 1878 to June 1985.Post graduate work at the University Of Georgia. James Madison Stephenson

James Madison Stephenson, Jr., b. 8 May 1873 in Dekalb County Ga., m. Mamie Estelle Gunter, 1 Jan. 1896, d. 21 June 1907. He married Mamie Estelle Gunter on 1 Jan. 1896. She was born 19 April 18--, of Walton Co., GA. James Jr held a place on the faculty of the University of Georgia in the English Dept for several years, 1898, 1899, 1900 and 1901.

Eudora Virginia Stephenson, born 4 Feb. 1875 near Lithonia, De Kalb Co., GA, and died 23 May 1962 in Farmville Community Hospital, Farmville, VA. She married Marcellus Lee Watkins, son of Thomas Watkins and Susan Watkins, on 12 Aug. 1896 at Bowdon Baptist Church, Bowdon, GA, by Rev. W. J. Roop. He was born 25 Dec. 1864 and died 21 Nov. 1933, both in Keysville, Charlotte Co., VA. Their first 2 children were born in Keysville, VA, and the third one in Durham, NC. (R-4)

He married Daisy Harris, daughter of Robert Harris and Mary Evans, on 14 Dec. 1905. She was born 26 July 1880 in Watkinsville, GA, and died 20 March 1961 in Valdosta, GA. Mell was named for DR Mell at the University Of Georgia, and Dr. Manly, a Baptist Minister. Lived in AThens 65 yeras, was a Public Accountant, Law School 1912.

Erastus Shellnutt Bio:
In 1870 Erastus was living with his parents, William C. and Charlotte H. Shelnutt, and his siblings, who at that time were, James B., Allice R., and Calvin D. in Broken Arrow, Walton county, GA.

In 1880 he was still living in Broken Arrow with his parents and siblings, but with four additional brothers and sisters, Mary E., Sallie, Enoch F. and an unnamed three month old infant brother.

In 1900 Erastus was a Christian Gospel Minister living as a boarder in Athens city, Clarke co, GA. He was not married at this time.

By 1910 Erastus was living with his brother-in-law, W. Joe (William Joseph) Elder and his wife, Alice (sister to Erastus). Also living in the household was Erastus' other sister Sallie and his wife, Tina Dean Stephenson, whom he married earlier (Jan) in the year.

Erastus and his family moved to Polk co Florida sometime before 1920. He and his wife Tina had three children between 1910 and 1920, Ruth, Hazel, and Virginia.

By 1930, Erastus and his wife were back in Georgia and took up residence in Winder. They also had a new member in the family, Charlotte. She may have been named for Erastus' mother (Charlotte H. Shelnutt)

Erastus was found still living in Winder Georgia in 1940 with his wife, Tina and one of his four children, Virginia, age 25. He was 74 years old at this time and his wife was 51. Erastus died the following year.

George Brown Stephenson, b. 30 Sept. 1891, m(1) Lucille Phelps, m(2) Annie Elizabeth Thomas, d. 1963.

  George Brown Stephenson Sr

George Brown Stephenson was born 30 Sept. 1891, and died in 1963 in Ocala, FL.  He first married Lucille Phelps.  This marriage ended in divorce and it is said that he would never afterwards mention her name.  They had no children.

George & possibly his first wife 

He married second Annie Elizabeth Thomas.  This was a happy marriage.  They lived in Leesburg, FL for a while and moved to Ocala, FL in 1948.  George was a Ford automobile salesman for many years with Ocala Motor Co., then later a Ford agent at Leesburg, FL.  He was a Mason and had many Masonic honors.  He was buried in Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, FL, service by Dr. J. Conally Evans, pastor of First Baptist Church, Ocala.
